N° 04 — About
Good design is mostly patience, paper and a sharp pencil.
I studied typography at Reading, spent four years at Slow Press setting books and catalogues, then two years as a designer at a branding studio in London. In 2015 I came home to Bristol and set up on my own. I work with one or two clients at a time. That means you get me — not a junior, not an account manager — from the first conversation to the last proof. Most of my clients are independent businesses: bakeries, coffee roasters, publishers, galleries, makers and the odd festival. When I’m not designing I’m teaching a typography evening class, collecting old type specimens, or swimming in the lido before the studio opens.

N° 05 — Approach
Three things I believe about design.
i.
Listen first
Every project starts with a long conversation and a walk around your shop, studio or kitchen. The answers are usually already there.
ii.
Few ideas, done well
I show one or two directions, not ten. Each one is thought through, set properly and tested in real use — on a bag, a menu, a shop front.
iii.
Made to last
Good identities get better with age. I design systems you can grow into, and leave you with clear guidelines and every file you need.
